Today in the U.S. is known as Black Friday. It is the busiest shopping day in the year as people juggle each other for bargains to buy for Christmas. For some it is the only way they can afford to give Christmas gifts to their families, but for the majority of us it is just one more day of hectic buying often of items we don’t need. Tragically Black Friday seems to be a little like a cancerous growth. First it has spread locally so that the whole of November now seems infected by the disease. It has also spread globally, metastasized to Australia, the UK and other countries as well.
Years ago friends tried to start a Make Something Day instead. Unfortunately it didn’t seem to gain much traction though some of us did try to participate with crafts of all kinds. I remember knitting a hat, and making lavender oil on the day. It was fun, but in our busy lives did not seem to be sustainable.
Today I decided to do something a little different again and make it a “Give something away” day. I originally planned to do this for my paying subscribers only, but felt God nudge me to give generously to everyone. It’s not that I don’t appreciate my paid subscribers. I do very much and in fact if you are able to join this crowd I would really appreciate it. Paid subscribers will receive other special gifts every week until Christmas. However today in a spirit counter to that of Black Friday I am giving a set of my prayer cards away to everyone.
I created these cards quite a while ago to encourage people to pray morning, midday and night, or at least morning and evening each day but they are no longer available and I have had several people ask me for them recently. I hope that they will encourage you too to pray each day from now until Christmas. And please let me know which of these prayers is your favourite. I am hoping to make some new sets next year.
Many blessings and I hope you will consider giving something away as well.
thanks for sharing these lovely words and images!
